AboutNot ready to run a marathon? Then get involved in the race by joining thousands of other runners and walkers in the 5K! Entering the 5K Run and Walk is a great way for families, friends and colleagues to get involved and be part of the action!

The 5K Run starts at Washington Square, 450 South 200 East (at the Salt Lake City-County Building). See the COURSE MAP.
All participants and spectators are urged to park at The Gateway and take UTA TRAX to the 5K start at Washington Square. A limited number of shuttles will be available to transport 5K participants from the Gateway to the start at Washington Square, starting at 5:30am. Please check back frequently for updates on additional parking around Washington Square. Baby Joggers will be allowed, but to insure the safety of all participants, they must begin their run at the back of the 5K start chute.Age Group Awards and MedallionsAward medals will be presented three deep in all age divisions for the marathon, half marathon & 5K in both male and female categories.
Age Group Divisions 11 & under (5K & Half Marathon Only) 12-14 (5K & Half Marathon Only) 15-18 19-24 25-29 30-34 35-39 40-44 45-49 50-54 55-59 60-64 65-69 70-74 75-79 80-84 85-89 90+ Clydesdales: Males over 200 lbs. (honor system) Athena: Females over 140 lbs. (honor system) Masters: 40 + Age Group Finish LineThe finish line will be filled with spirit, music and celebration. The last mile of the course is a lively Celebration Station, filled with crowds of well-wishers and more energy than you thought possible! Live bands will be performing on the entertainment stages, school cheering squads will be on hand and there will be plenty of fun diversions for participants, their families and friends. The gear check area for the 2010 Salt Lake City Marathon will be located at the Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K starts. Participants will place their gear in a bag that will be provided at the Starting Lines and identified with their bib #.
Gear bags will be transported to the finish line area and may be picked up in Finish Line Festival area. Bib and Packet PickupBib and Packet Pick-up will be conducted on Thursday, April 15th & Friday, April 16th, 2010. All participants MUST pick up their bib & race packet at the Quality of Life Expo! Location and times to be announced.
There will be NO race day packet pickup and packets will not be mailed!
If a participant is unable to pick-up their packet and goody bag at the Quality of Life Expo, the participant may authorize someone else to pick it up for them. This person will need to present a signed note from the participant authorizing the pick-up and a copy of the participant's ID.
Scoring / TimingThe Salt Lake City Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K has selected the ChampionChip system for the scoring and timing of both the Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K for this year’s event.

If you do not wear your chip, you will not be timed. Timing chips must be adhered to your shoe. (If you do not adhere it to your shoe, the chip may not be close enough to the ground to register your time as you cross the start and finish line mats!)
For more information about how ChampionChip timing works, visit Parking/Shuttle To Start5K Participants are asked to park at The Gateway and are encouraged to ride TRAX to the start line. A limited number of shuttles will also be available to transport 5K participants from the Gateway to the 5K Start at Washington Sqaure. 5K participants are encouraged to take TRAX to the 5K start line.
The shuttle pick-up location is on 400 West, at the intersection of South Temple, in front of the Union Pacific Building at The Gateway and will take participants directly to the 5K start at Washington Square (Salt Lake City-County Building), 450 South, 200 East. Shuttle buses start at 5:30am.
All participants are urged to get an early start! To assure an on-time start, don’t wait until the last minute to board TRAX. Please check back frequently for updates on additional parking areas around Washington Square. To see a map of public parking areas in downtown SLC, click here.
