2011 5K Run and Walk Details

Not ready to run a marathon? You can still be a part of the excitement by joining thousands of other runners and walkers in the 5K! Entering the 5K Run and Walk is a great way for families, friends and colleagues to get involved and be part of the action!

The "new" route will start adjacent to the fountain, then depart the Gateway traveling east on South Temple past the Energy Solutions Arena to State St.  Participants will then journey south on State for approximately .8 miles just past the Marriott City Center, turning west on Gallivan Ave.  There you’ll be able to refuel at an aid station before returning back… traveling east on 300 South and then north on State St, onto South Temple and back the Gateway.

The finish line will be filled with spirit, music and celebration. The last mile of the course is a lively Celebration Station, filled with crowds of well-wishers and more energy than you thought possible! Live bands will be performing on the entertainment stages, school cheering squads will be on hand and there will be plenty of fun diversions for participants, their families and friends.  Fun interactive exhibits for adults and children, and great food and great music will all be part of the festivities to help celebrate and cheer on the athletes.

All 5K participants will receive a race goody bag, a participant shirt, and entrance to the Quality of Life Expo on Thursday, April 14th and Friday, April 15th, 2010.

Scoring / Timing

The Salt Lake City Marathon, Half Marathon & 5K has selected the MyLaps Timing System (formerly ChampionChip) for the scoring and timing for this year’s event.

MyLaps utilizes a computerized timing system that records each runner's actual running time. Timing starts when participants cross the starting line mat and stops at the finish line. Your finish time is calculated precisely when you cross the finish line mat. Salt Lake City Marathon provides chip timing as a service to all our participants. Cash prizes are awarded based on gun time.  Division winners are based on chip time.

This new system will have the timing chip all ready permanently attached to the back of your bib number.

All participants must pick up their bib number at the Quality of Life Expo on Thursday, April 15th and Friday, April 16th.

You will not need to surrender your chip at the finish line!

If you do not wear your bib number properly, you will not be timed.  For more details go to www.mylaps.com
