Kid’s Marathon Details
The Salt Lake City Marathon has created a unique program for children ages 5-12, to be part of the race-day action. Kids actually get to cross a safe, sectioned-off area of the same finish line as adult marathoners, amidst a cheering crowd of spectators!
By allowing kids to participate in this exciting 1K run/walk alongside elite marathoners, our goal is to provide a springboard for a lifetime of healthy habits for children - not just a one-time activity. All participants receive goody bags with not only educational tools to learn about healhty nutrition, but also freebies and discounts for parents to explore with their children that encourage year-round enjoyment in physical activity.
The organizers of the Salt Lake City Marathon enthusiastically support physical education programs and organized activities in Utah that promote and maintain healthy lifestyles. Such programs are in great need, as evidenced by startling statistics from The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention showing that over three times as many children today are overweight as were in 1980.

Our Mission
To promote the setting and achievement of goals, to help fight childhood obesity by teaching good habits and fundamentals that are part of a healthy lifestyle, and to build the self-esteem of children by providing a basis for a lifetime of health and fitness.
To achieve this, the Kid’s Marathon will assist and support parents, teachers, instructors and others who influence a child’s behavior and activity, in order to help our youth make smart and healthy choices by providing positive experiences at a critical age.
Kid’s Marathon 1K Run/Walk
Date: Saturday, April 16, 2011
Time: 10:45 am (warm-up & stretching starts at 10:30 am)
Location: *NEW START LINE LOCATION* Kids Marathon start line will be on the SOUTH SIDE (200 South and Rio Grande) of The Gateway.
The Gateway is located at 400 W 100 S, Salt Lake City, UT 84101. Kids will run North on Rio Grande St. to the Finish line located next to the Olympic Legacy Fountain within The Gateway.
What should my child wear?
Don't forget to wear your official SLC Kids Marathon shirt and come early to take part in all of the day's festivities!
What do my children get at the Finish line?
All children participating in the 1K will receive a special finisher's medal just for kids! Refreshments and other treats will be served at the kids' celebration area along 50 North.
Where do I find finish times for my child?
There will not be an official finish time offered, as the event focuses on participation rather than competition.
Can I accompany my child?
One parent/guardian per registered child can run/walk with the child at no cost. Parents are also welcome to cheer at the Finish line.
Are strollers or other wheeled items allowed on the course?
For the safety of all participants and due to the narrowed finish chute used to keep your children safe, we prohibit strollers or other wheeled items (i.e. carts, wagons, roller skates, etc.) on the Kids Marathon course.
PLEASE NOTE: While we are glad to provide a fun and healthy event, please help us keep your children safe! Please do not drop off/leave your child unattended at the Start or Finish areas.
Cost
$16 per child
Each participating child will receive a Kids Marathon T-shirt, a finisher's medal and a goody bag filled with items from our sponsors!

- The Quality of Life Expo will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center (100 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City) on the following dates:
- Thursday, April 14th, 2011 - 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm
- Friday, April 15th, 2011 - 11:00 am to 6:00 pm (Expo open until 8:00 pm, however registration closes at 6:00 pm on Friday, April 15th)
Packet Pick-Up
Race Bibs, T-shirt, and goody bag for all registered children can be picked up at the Quality of Life Expo. The Quality of Life Expo will be held at the Salt Palace Convention Center (100 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City, UT 84101) on Thursday, April 14th (4:00 pm - 7:00pm) and Friday, April 15th, 2011 (11:00am – 8:00pm).
