Although the marathon organization is doing its best to lessen any impact on our community, we expect that there will be some impact on traffic to your homes or places of business on race morning.  We want to assure the public that they will be kept as informed as possible about the race route and reopening schedule. With some advanced planning and allowing for a little additional travel time, we are hoping the impact will be minimal.

To insure the safety of our participants, select course segments are going to require 100% closure. Many course segments will only be restricted to one-way traffic. We are taking our direction from the public safety departments of the participating municipalities of Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, the City of South Salt Lake, Murray City and Holladay City.

In some areas the course will be only available for use by the marathon, half marathon & 5K participants. Some of these select street closures could be for up to seven hours.

For the specifics on the road closure and reopening schedules please come back and check the marathon website.

Plan ahead for your best routes to your home or business.

While roads will remain closed to the general public until all runners have passed, all medical vehicles will have absolute priority; even to the point of halting runners.  The best alternative route to navigate around the course is by utilizing all three freeways, or north of the Gateway if visiting downtown Salt Lake City.

Residents should avoid those roads experiencing the greatest amount of impact, including 500 East, Van Winkle Expressway, Holladay Boulevard and Sugar House Park.  For complete information, or to review a route map, visit www.saltlakecitymarathon.com.
